Abstracts and research posters
Publishing and Presenting Research
An abstract is often the only part people read. In 150–300 words it states the problem, method, main results and conclusion, with no citations and no information that is not in the paper.
A poster is read from two metres away in under a minute: a clear title, one key finding in large type, one figure, and the minimum of text. Bring a short spoken summary for visitors.
Example
Poster headline: “Blended courses doubled forum participation — but only with weekly feedback.” — illustrative.
Exercise
Write your abstract last, in the Abstract section, then check it against the four elements.
