Citation styles and mixed-language references
Referencing and Citation Management
Styles fall into two families. Author–date styles (APA, Harvard, Chicago author-date) put the name and year in the text and sort the list alphabetically. Numeric styles (IEEE, Vancouver, AMA) put a number in the text and order the list by first citation.
When you cite Arabic and English sources together, many Arab universities ask for separate Arabic and foreign reference lists. Arabic names are usually written in full rather than as initials. Follow your institution’s guide where it differs.
Example
APA: (Hattie & Timperley, 2007) · IEEE: [3] · Arabic APA: (عبيدات وعدس، 2016)
Exercise
Open your References section and switch styles to see how the same sources change.
