Proofreading in Arabic and English

Reviewing and Improving Research

Proofread on a different day, on paper or at a larger font, and read aloud. Check one thing at a time: spelling, then punctuation, then consistency of terms, numbers and abbreviations.

In Arabic, watch hamzas, taa marbuta and the spacing of punctuation; in mixed documents, check that English terms and numbers display in the right direction.

Example

Common slips: “إنشاء الله” for “إن شاء الله”; “it’s” for “its”; mixing “e-learning” and “eLearning”.

Exercise

Ask the mentor to “review academic tone” on your introduction, then proofread it yourself.
